SWGfL Web Site

Developed for South West Grid for Learning

Until late 2008, the South West Grid for Learning web site was a static site based on outdated technology. The pace of development required and the volume of content published was surpassing the capability of the site, and the server on which it was hosted.

Following a thorough end user engagement process, I managed the delivery of the following:

  • Evaluation and procurement process for a new Web Content Management system for the SWGfL web site;

  • Replacement and build of SWGfL's new web servers (Windows Server 2008/IIS 7/Microsoft SQL Server 2005);

  • Configuration and initial training programme delivery for Kentico Content Management System;

  • Ground-up redesign of the SWGfL web site, including navigation, structure, design and content review;

  • Development of custom web parts to extend the functionality of the content management system;

  • Integration of external systems, such as our service delivery partner's service status data;

  • Introduction of collaborative and social features such as content rating and social networking integration.
The new web site continues to attract extremely positive user feedback and, with it's ever-increasing content base, continues to attract increasing visitor numbers.
