swgfl.org.uk Single Sign On Integration

Developed for South West Grid for Learning

One of the key benefits of SWGfL's 'SWGfL Merlin' product is the Single Sign On (SSO) mechanism that it employs.

Every learner and teacher in the South West of England will be provided with a SWGfL Merlin login, which will in time provide access to the majority of web-based systems that the user needs to access. At present, these systems include webmail, collaborative tools, learning resources and school MIS'.

SWGfL Merlin's SSO mechanism is powered by standards-based, open source SSO service, Shibboleth.

To allow SWGfL's web content publishers to use their SWGfL Merlin SSO login to gain access to our content management system, I commisioned the setup of the SSO service on SWGfL's web servers and adapted the authentication mechanism of the CMS to accept logins via SWGfL Merlin.
